"Parthenium awareness week” (16-22, August, 2012)

Seed Village Programme- DSR
 
Under this programme DSR has adopted 10 villages for feild line demonstrations (FLD)
Viz, Kushmaur, Kahinaur, Paniara, Onaich, Etaura, Khiria, Bangli, Pinzara, Harpur and
Khanderaipur, in which Farmers were selected from adopted villages and provided with
quality seeds in order to popularize the quality seed production technologies in the rural
areas. The periodical visits were made to the farmers’ field and the suitable package of
practices was recommended to the farmers and they were motivated to adopt quality
Seeds for the crop production. Under this programme the following activities have been
carried out.
This programme is being coordinated by Dr. Arvind Nath Singh Scientist.

Rabi-2010-11
Wheat

About 50 farmers were selected from the adopted villages and distributed quality seeds of
wheat. Their fields were monitored from time to time and recommended improved
package of practices by monitoring team. The fields under this programme were visited by
Dr. J. S Sandhu, ADG (Seed), ICAR, New Delhi. He interacted with the associated
farmers and appreciated the programme.
Kharif2011
Paddy
About 50 farmers were selected from the adopted villages and distributed with quality
seeds of paddy. Their fields were monitored from time to time and recommended
improved package of practices by the monitoring team

Rabi-2011-12
DSR is conducting seed village programme, in which the farmers will be given small
quantity of quality seed. Farmers will multiply the same at their field under the supervision
of DSR scientists and the produced seed will be used as a seed for next season for their
own field and excess seed will be sold to the neighboring farmers. By this way the
horizontal spread of quality seed would be taking place.  In this connection, for this Rabi
season 2011-12 the quality seed was distributed by Dr. S Rajendra Prasad, Project

Director, and DSR on 25 November to the farmers. About 50 wheat farmers were
selected from the DSR adopted villages and distributed with quality seeds of Variety of
PBW- 550.

Kisan Goshthi-22.10.2011

For the benefits of the farmers and extension workers Directorate organizes training, field
day, Gosthis and Melas every year. In this year field day was conducted on 21 October,
2011 at DSR. About three hundred farmers from nearby villages were invited and shown
result of

recent technologies in seed production especially saline & alkaline soil reclamation adopted
by DSR. The farmers shown keen interest to adopt newer technologies especially for
production of quality seeds.

Implementation of Seed Village Scheme-2011 30.11.2011 to 06.12.2011

Project: Seed Village Scheme during 2011-2012 under “Assistance for development and
strengthening of infrastructure facilities for production and distribution of quality seeds

Objectives:

1. To upgrade the quality of farmers saved seed.
2.  To provide financial assistance of 50 % of seed cost to ensure Foundation Seed
   / Certified Seed to the farmers.
3. To train the farmers about seed production technology and to demonstrate the
   importance of quality seed in increasing the crop productivity.

• A four days farmers’ training on “Crop Production” was organized at DSR, Mau
  with the sponsorship from R N Agri. - clinic and Agri-business center, Ghazipur
  during 06.04.10 to 09.04.10 under the coordination of Dr. A. N. Singh.
  
  
• XXV Annual Group Meeting of AICRP – National Seed Project was organized
  under the Chairmanship of Hon’ble Dr. S. Ayyappan, Secretary, DARE & Director
  General, ICAR during 04-06 May, 2010 at CRIJAF, Barrackpore, West Bengal
  with participation of more than 200 scientists from various corners of the country.
  
• First meeting of Quinquennial Review Team - DSR for the period 2004-05 to
  2008–09 was conducted under the Chairmanship of Dr. S.A. Patil, Chairman,
  Karnataka Krishi Mission, Bengaluru on 21 June, 2010 at Directorate of Maize
  Research, New Delhi.

• Quinquinnial Review Meeting (QRT) of Directorate of Seed Research (DSR), Mau
  for the period 2004-05 to 2008-09 was held at IARI New Delhi on 21 July, 2010
  for Northern Zones, at ANGRAU, Hyderabad during 12-13 August, 2010 for
  Southern Zones, at OUA&T, Bhubaneswar during 1-2 September, 2010 for
  Eastern Zone and final meeting at DSR, Mau on 21 December, 2010 for all
  remaining centres under the chairmanship of Dr. S.A. Patil, Chairman, Karnataka
  Krishi Mission, Bengaluru.
  
  
  
• Brain storming session on “Novel molecules, tools and techniques for seed
  enhancement and farm prosperity” was held at DSR, Mau on 23 July, 2010 which
  was organized by Dr. Rajiv K. Singh, Sr. Scientist (Agronomy).
  
  
  
• Training programme on “Micro array technology to unzip up and down regulation of
  genes governing seed related attributes” was organized by Dr. P.R. Choudhary,
  Sr. Scientist (Biotechnology) at DSR, Mau during 5 to 7 August, 2010.
  
  
  
• Scientist-Media Interaction in coordination with IIVR, Varanasi under the sub-
  project “Mobilizing Mass Media Support for Sharing Agro-Information” in NAIP
  was held on 9 September, 2010 at DSR, Mau.
  
  
  
• Final meeting of the corporate style functioning was held under the chairmanship of
  Dr. S.L. Mehta, former Vice Chancellor, MPUA&T, Udaipur  on 20 September,
  2010 at Director’s Board Room of IARI, New Delhi.
  
  
  
• Scientific Discourse on “National Seed Bill, 2004 and Public Private Partnership
  (PPP) in seed sector” was held on 21 September, 2010 at NASC Complex, New
  Delhi. 
  
  
  
•    Field visit to IARI RS, Karnal on maintenance breeding programme was
  organized on 22 September, 2010. Several nodal officers from different
  cooperating centres of AICRP – NSP (Crops) have participated.

• Training programme on Vigilance Awareness week “Generation of Awareness
  Against Corruption” was organized at DSR, Mau by Sh. Sushil K. Singh,
  Administrative Officer during 25 October to 1 November, 2010.
  
  
  
• One day farmers training programme was held at DSR, Mau on 7 July, 2010 which
  was coordinated by Dr. Rajiv K. Singh, Sr. Scientist (Agronomy).
  
  
  
• A field day programme on 11 November, 2010 was organized by Dr. A. N. Singh,
  Sr. Scientist (Entomology). About 39 farmers from various villages were
  participated in the field day programme.
  
  
  
• Dr Arvind Nath Singh, Sr. Scientist (Entomology) conducted farmers training
  regarding scientific cultivation of rabi pulses on 21 October, 2010. About 38
  farmers from nearby villages were participated in the training.
  
  
  
• A farmers training was organized on 5 December,10 at DSR, Mau under ATMA
  program of Department of Agriculture, Uttar Pradesh by Dr. Dinesh Singh, Sr.

Participation in Kisan Mela / Ghosti


• Dr. Arvind N. Singh, Senior Scientist (Entomology) participated and hosted DSR
  exhibition stall in “Kisan Mela” on 17 April 2010, which was organized by Deputy
  Director (Agriculture), Ghazipur, UP.
  
  
• Dr. Asit B. Mandal, Project Director, DSR, Mau attended “kharif kisan mela” in
  Mau on 22 May, 2010 organized by Nand Educational Foundation for Rural
  Development (NEFORD) as chief guest and delivered a lecture on “Importance of
• quality seeds in augmenting agriculture for enhance productivity at sustainable
  scale”.
  
  
• Dr. Arvind N. Singh, Senior Scientist (Entomology) participated and hosted DSR
  exhibition stall in one day “Kharif kisan mela” in Mau on 22 May 2010, which
  was organized by Nand Educational Foundation for Rural Development
  (NEFORD).
