Two
days Kisan Mela-2012 at Directorate of Seed Research
Directorate
of Seed Research (DSR), Kushmaur, Mau, organized a
two days RashtriyaKisan Mela during February 24 - 25, 2012. The
directorate is working towards enhancing genetic and physical
characteristics of seed to increase the productivity, quality and
sustainability. Under the theme “Towards Second Green Revolution
through Use of Quality Seeds”, Directorate has disseminated various
newly developed technologies on seed production, processing, storage and
quality enhancement to the farmers through demonstration, exhibition and
interactions.
The
Kisan Mela was inaugurated by Dr. J. S. Sandhu, Assistant
Director General (Seed), Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi
and he emphasized the farmers to use seeds of newly released High Yielding
Varieties (HYVs)/ Hybrids and stressed upon importance of enhancing seed
replacement rate to augment productivity in agriculture. Further, he
appealed the farmers to go for quality seed production in seed village mode.
During
mela, more than 2500 farmers, extension workers, company
representatives, etc. from nearby four districts viz., Azamgarh,
Ballia, Gazipur and Mau and some progressive farmers from different parts of
the country were participated. During Kisan Mela,Directorate
of Seed Research (DSR) honoured 18 progressive/ innovative farmers, through
awards for their best performance in seed production and quality
maintenance.
During
his presidential remarks, Dr. S. Rajendra Prasad, Project Director, DSR, Mau,
requested the farmers to make use of the technology displayed by various
agencies like Uttar Pradesh Department of Agriculture, ICAR Institutes, NGOs,
Private Organisations, etc. in the mela. He suggested the
farmers to produce seeds of hybrid vegetables to generate more revenue.
Further, he requested the farmers to make use of trainings organised by
DSR, Mau on various areas of seed production.
In
total, 35 organizations have participated in the kisan mela. Out of
which, 18 were from various government organization, 16 private agro-companies
and one NGO. Further, it was the great opportunity for researchers to exhibit
and demonstrate technologies to farmers and also seek feedback from them about
the results of earlier technologies. During kisanmela, many
farmers have purchased quality seeds and different agricultural implements.

Showcases its Technology at National Level Kisan Mela-2012 at IIVR,
Varanasi.
DSR
has participated in the National Level “Kisan Mela” 2012 at
Indian institute of Vegetable Research, Varanasi on 17, March 2012, under the
theme of “Vegetable
Show to the farmers casing and National Farmers Fair.” During the Mela,
DSR showcased its frontier technologies including demonstration of seed testing
and storage methods. The DSR stall was visited and appreciated by Hon’ble
Dr.
S. Ayyappan, Secretary DARE and Director General, ICAR, New
Delhi, Dr. H.P. Singh, Deputy Director General (Horticulture), Dr. R. P. Singh,
Ex. Vice Chancellor, MP Univ. of Agric. & Tech., Udaipur, Rajasthan, Dr.P.S
Naik, Director, IIVR Varanasi, Dr.S.Rajendra Prasad, project
director,farmers,
students, scientists and extension functionaries visited the stall in large
numbers.
During kisan mela, Dr. S. Rajendra Prasad, Project Director, DSR, Mau
suggested to use quality seeds and to practice new seed enhancement technology
to increase the yield. Further, he emphasized on seed production of high
yielding varieties /hybrids of new vegetable crops on seed village concept to
ensure availability of adequate quantity of in time quality seed at reasonable
price. He also requested the farmers to make use of trainings organised by
DSR, Mau on various areas of seed production. The

Director, NDRI, Karnal, Dr. K. P. Singh, Director, IAS, BHU and

Jaunpur.
DSR has participated in Kisan Mela 2012 was conducted by
Institute of Agricultural Science, BHU, at Rahul Mahavidyalaya, Sherwan,
Sikrara, Jaunpur. Two days Kisan Mela was organized during May 27 - 28, 2012.
During kisan mela, Dr. S. Rajendra Prasad, Project Director,
DSR, Mau was the chief guest. During the Mela DSR showcased its
premier technologies. The DSR stall was visited and appreciated by
Hon’ble Padmashri Dr Lalji Singh, Vice-Chancellor,BHU
Varanasi. Farmers, scientists and extension functionaries were
present in large numbers. In kisan mela, Dr. S. Rajendra Prasad, Project
